Keith Urban & Nicole Kidman Talk Rehab

November 30th, 2010 — 6:00pm

He?s been clean and sober for awhile now, but back in 2006 Keith Urban found himself in rehab- just four months after marrying Nicole Kidman.
The ?I Wanna Kiss a Girl? singer explained that at the time he was fearful that his demons would pull the curtains on his fledgling marriage.
“[I thought], ‘Surely let’s give it a few years so we’ve got some solidity, because this kind of thing could tear us apart. This could just destroy us.’”
Urban shared that Kidman was the one to stage the intervention. “It was really a profound moment in so many ways. The way in which Nic handled that moment was just perfect… Everything was just designed, I believe, for that moment to fuse us together.”
“I had to make a decision which road I was going to take, once and for all. I’d been at that crossroads before and always taken the wrong road.”
“I look back now and realize Nic has taught me so much and brought so much into my life and opened my eyes in so many ways…[This is] the best place I’ve ever been.”
Nicole added, “I think marriage is about, every day, trying to make it better and working through things and when things are tough, saying, ‘I’m going to come to you and talk.? We’re just very tight, and we stay really tight.”

How Did 30 Seconds To Mars Pull Off Ambitious ‘Hurricane’ Video?

November 30th, 2010 — 10:00am

Jared Leto labored day and night to finish eventual 13-minute-plus short film.By James Montgomery

30 Seconds to Mars’ Jared Leto in “Hurricane”

In early November, following his band’s performance of “Hurricane” with Kanye West at the 2010 MTV Europe Music Awards and months of adjective-filled hyperbole about the single’s accompanying video, Jared Leto finally unveiled 30 Seconds to Mars’ “Hurricane” clip on Monday (November 29). OK, “short film.” The singer decided to provide the sneak peek during an impromptu (though well-catered) screening for a handful of folks — including MTV News — in his bedroom at the ME Hotel in Madrid.

It was very late at night (or very early in the morning, depending on how you choose to look at these sort of things), and Leto was extremely clear about the fact that this was still “a very rough cut” of the video, playing the thing on a MacBook Pro and pausing every few frames to explain where a CG effect would be inserted or how the sound design would be shaped. But despite those facts (or, maybe, because of them), everyone left that bedroom thinking the exact same thing: “How the heck is Jared going to pull this off?”
You couldn’t blame them, because just weeks later, the final, 13-minute version debuted on MTV.com, and it did, indeed, contain a number of impressive CGI effects of the type you might see in a Hollywood superhero summer movie, not to mention enough NC-17-rated material to make “Eyes Wide Shut” look like “Love & Other Drugs” by comparison.
At the time, not only was “Hurricane” clocking in at around 20 minutes, it was sort of insane, too: a nightmarish rumination on sex and violence and secret fetishes that not only featured plenty of fight scenes (and nudity), but didn’t shy away from politically loaded imagery. Among the ones that made the cut was one in which a rabbi, priest and imam are seen tossing their holy prayer books onto a blazing pyre in a dank alley and another in which Leto battled a leather-masked foe in a courtyard littered with American-flag-draped coffins. (Spoiler alert, someone you know ends up in one of those coffins.)
Part snuff film, part BBC World report, it was, in short, filled with the kind of stuff that makes censors cringe, in an era where that’s increasingly difficult to do. Following some cuts, the finished product contains a number of scenes seemingly too-hot-to-handle, which are dispatched with a big black “censored” bar. Though given the copious nudity, S&M play, barely there fetish gear and one quick-cut image of a woman spitting into another’s mouth, you kind of have to wonder what was so deviant that it couldn’t make the cut among all these dark fantasies?
Add in the fact that Leto was attempting to weave three separate narratives — the members of 30STM each battling their personal demons and unlocking secret fantasies — in between all that sex and blood and book-burning, and you have the makings of a major undertaking. Considering that, according to his label, the video was due to premiere at the end of the month, Leto was then cutting the thing full-time, in the midst of a world tour, with the help of a team of editors that traveled with him everywhere he went.
It seemed that, in just about every conceivable manner, “Hurricane” was a monster, an ode to not only Leto’s ego, but his unyielding ambition and utterly unmatched enthusiasm, which, in theory, made it not unlike everything he’s ever attempted with 30 Seconds to Mars. But everyone who saw it that night in Madrid knew differently. “Hurricane” may very well have been Leto going too far, pushing too hard. It seemed practically destined to remain forever unfinished.
But, like the song’s guest rapper West, Leto is a hard man to deter, and he clearly got his way, delivering a 13-minute mind-bender that involves secret keys that unlock dark fears, treachery, seduction, submission, an unexplained cockroach cameo, a silver sexual aid on a platter and enough creepy masks to make Slipknot shudder.
Somehow, by Monday, Leto had wrangled all those dark thoughts and visions into one dizzying whole and brought “Hurricane” home for its premiere. It would have been hard to find many people in the room that night who would have put money on “Hurricane” coming ashore in such record time. Well, except Leto. He knew.

Faith Evans has settled her DUI drama. The singer was sentenced Monday (November 29) to three years of probation after pleading no contest to one misdemeanor count of reckless driving involving alcohol stemming from an August DUI bust, Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office spokesperson Frank Mateljan told MTV News. Evans must also pay a $300 fine plus penalties, complete a three-month alcohol program and cannot drive “with any measurable amount of alcohol in her system” while she’s on probation.
Evans was arrested in August for suspicion of drunken driving at a checkpoint in Marina Del Rey, California. The “Love Like This” songstress took to her Twitter after the incident to assure fans that she was doing well and that a visual for her single was coming down the pike.
“Hi Faithfuls…I am on the set of my new video for my single ‘Gone Already.’ I’m sure by now most of you heard that I was detained on suspicion of a DUI,” the “Burnin’ Up” songstress tweeted days after the arrest. “After completing a full day of wardrobe prep I was stopped at a random checkpoint. I’m fine and well, and thank you for your prayers, kind words and concerns. I can’t wait for you all to see my new video & look forward to hearing from u guys…Fizzy.”
The incident follows the “You Gets No Love” singer’s 2004 arrest alongside her husband in Atlanta on drug-possession charges. Evans sidestepped time behind bars by entering a pretrial drug-abuse intervention program and referenced the experience in her 2005 single “Again.”

‘Harry Potter’ Brushes Past ‘Tangled’ Over Thanksgiving Weekend

November 29th, 2010 — 8:01pm

‘Deathly Hallows, Part 1′ continues to enchant moviegoers.By Josh Wigler

As people across the country recover from their Thanksgiving turkey comas, it’s clear that moviegoers remained energetic throughout the five-day holiday box-office weekend. Thanks to the combined efforts of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1″ and “Tangled,” this past weekend was the second-highest-grossing Thanksgiving period on record, second only to last year when “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” and “The Blind Side” battled it out.
“Harry Potter” led the charge, soaring away from the five-day weekend with $76.3 million in its pocket, $50.4 million of which was made during the standard Friday-through-Sunday timeframe. The seventh installment in the beloved novel-turned-film series has earned $220.4 million after two weekends in theaters, an impressive result that’s bound to get shattered when the second half of “Deathly Hallows” arrives next summer.
But Harry, Ron and Hermione didn’t earn first place without a fight, as Disney’s “Tangled” provided some stiff competition. Both movies targeted similar family-friendly crowds, and while “Harry Potter” won in the end, it was a close race. “Tangled” ended its five-day debut with $69 million, less than $10 million behind “Harry.” It was even closer when examining the standard three-day totals of each film, where “Potter” outpaced “Tangled” by less than $1 million. Of course, it can’t be ignored that “Tangled” debuted in almost 2,500 3-D locations — meaning higher ticket prices — while Warner Bros. opted to skip 3-D altogether for the first “Deathly Hallows” installment.
“Tangled” performed the best of the weekend’s new releases, with Cher and Christina Aguilera’s “Burlesque” coming in a distant second with a $17.2 million fourth-place finish. Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway’s “Love & Other Drugs” and Dwayne Johnson’s “Faster” fell flat, arriving in sixth and seventh place with $14 million and $12.2 million respectively over the five-day holiday weekend.
The Box-Office Top Five
#1 “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1″ ($76.3 million)
#2 “Tangled” ($69 million)
#3 “Megamind” ($17.6 million)
#4 “Burlesque” ($17.2 million)
#5 “Unstoppable” ($16.2 million)
Upcoming Releases
“The Warrior’s Way” kicks its way into the box-office arena next weekend, while director Darren Aronofsky and actress Natalie Portman’s “Black Swan” dances in limited release.
Check out everything we’ve got on “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1,” “Tangled” and “Megamind.”

Ronald Isley, Anita Baker Honored At Soul Train Awards

Only at the Soul Train Awards could you have a tribute to R&B icons such as Anita Baker and Ronald Isley alongside a segment in which rap legend Doug E. Fresh attempts to teach CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer how to do the Dougie.

It was that kind of night at the 2010 Soul Train Awards, as rookies, veterans and legends came together in Atlanta for the second annual event — which was taped November 10 and aired Sunday night on BET. The show, hosted once again by Terrence Howard and Taraji P. Henson, featured a night of performances from some of the biggest names in soul and R&B.
Host Howard told MTV News that the show is meant to be an extension of the long-running and legendary ’70s TV series that brought soul, disco, R&B and rap stars into viewers’ living rooms. “It reminds me of the advancement black people have made over the years because ‘Soul Train’ really was the beginning of that Black Power movement when we could actually see ourselves — and to have an awards show based upon that ‘Soul Train’ — it’s headed somewhere,” Howard said. “We have a black president now. The country seems to be more tolerant towards the diversity inside of it so it seems like the train is moving well down the tracks.”
The awards show marked the 40th anniversary of the classic music showcase hosted by Don Cornelius, and celebrated the careers of Baker and Isley, while handing out trophies to such contemporary stars as B.o.B (Song of the Year for “Nothing on You”), Melanie Fiona (Best New Artist), Eminem and Rihanna (Best Hip-Hop Song of the Year for “Love the Way You Lie”), Usher (Album of the Year for Raymond vs. Raymond) and Alicia Keys (Record of the Year for “Unthinkable [I'm Ready]” and Best Female R&B Soul Artist).
Though top winners such as Trey Songz, Usher, Ciara, Eminem and Rihanna were not in the house, Blitzer graciously agreed to accept Slim Shady’s award for him, joking, “Who better to accept this award on behalf of Eminem … I know he’s thrilled.”
Weaving through a series of skits involving magic tricks and jovial bickering by the hosts, the performance-heavy program delivered on talent. R. Kelly opened by teasing the crowd with his classic “Bump n’ Grind,” then diving into his new single “When a Woman Loves” — transforming the song from a slow jam into an all-out ’50s rock-and-roll epic. Ne-Yo kept the show moving with a showcase of his singles from this year, including “Champagne Life” and “One in a Million.”
The tribute to Baker featured an all-star cast, with artists like Chrisette Michele, Goapele, Lalah Hathaway, Dionne Farris, Kem, Tamia, Faith Evans and El DeBarge covering a medley of the singer’s greatest hits. Baker told the crowd that the biggest honor of the night for her was that real musicians were performing live with an actual band. “It’s amazing because you’ve got children behind you singing ‘Rapture’ — it’s lovely,” she said, adding, “Let’s do it again!”
Ronald Isley, co-founder and lead singer of the Isley Brothers, also received a special homage that featured Jeffrey Osborne, Freddy Jackson, DeBarge, Tank, Eric Benet, Bilal and Peabo Bryson. Isley also came out to perform his own medley of hits and was joined onstage by Chanté Moore and R. Kelly for a rendition of “Contagious,” their 2002 single that featured the Isleys. In addition, Cee Lo Green closed the show with a duet on the Isleys’ classic 1959 hit, “Shout.”
Among the event’s other highlights was Cee Lo’s performance of his smash “Forget You,” which took place on a golden stage that resembled a cross between Kanye’s Egyptian fusion and an OK Go video, and found the singer gliding down conveyor belts while belting his number.
Erykah Badu delivered a stripped-down version of her 2010 breakout “Window Seat” that featured the singer perched on the floor over a web of lights while appearing to orchestrate the vibrations of light flickers with her hands.
Soul singer Eric Benet performed “Sometimes a Cry” — a song that Lil Wayne cited as one of his favorites while in prison — bringing down the house with a soaring falsetto that bested his studio rendition of the track.
The evening’s other performers included Bruno Mars, who sang his new hit “Grenade,” and Jazmine Sullivan, who did a medley of “10 Seconds” and “Holding You Down (Goin’ in Circles).”

Leslie Nielsen Dead At 84

November 29th, 2010 — 2:00pm

‘Airplane!’ and ‘Naked Gun’ star passed away on Sunday.By Gil Kaufman

Leslie Nielsen

Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images

Leslie Nielsen has died.
Surely, you can’t be serious. Yes, the comedy great and “Airplane!” star passed away on Sunday in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, at the age of 84 after being treated for pneumonia.
And don’t call me Shirley.
It was lines like the above, delivered in Nielsen’s patented deadpan that gave the dramatic stage and screen actor an unlikely comedic revival later in life.
After beginning his career in the 1950s as a matinee idol, taking on the roles of dashing heroes in films such as the sci-fi classic “Forbidden Planet” and the stalwart captain in 1972′s “The Poseidon Adventure,” the Canadian-born actor switched gears in 1980 and took a chance with a slapstick disaster-movie spoof that would forever change his life.
Nielsen was at first reluctant to take on the role of the clueless Dr. Alan Rumack, but the white-haired, hilariously dopey MD became the comedic find of a lifetime, as the actor managed to steal the show in a movie packed with dozens of classic one-liners thanks to his impeccable timing and serious delivery.
It was an unlikely, but ultimately lucrative left turn in a long career that spanned more than 100 movies and 1,500 television appearances.
Born Leslie William Nielsen in Regina, Saskatchewan, on February 11, 1926, Nielsen signed up with the Royal Canadian Air Force before turning 18 and trained as an aerial gunner during World War II, but never saw action. He tried his hand at radio and studied acting, landing his television debut in 1950 as part of the “Actor’s Studio” TV series. He spent the next several years bouncing around different TV shows, including “Lights Out” and “Tales of Tomorrow” and working in a Broadway play before landing his film debut in 1956 in “Ransom!”
Even as his movie career blossomed, Nielsen kept returning to TV to play earnest heroes in shows like “Rawhide” and “Alfred Hitchcock Presents.” He continued bouncing back and forth between the big and small screens throughout the 1960s and ’70s, appearing in hit shows like “M*A*S*H” and “Barnaby Jones” while taking small roles in little-seen films such as “Project: Kill” and “Day of the Animals.”
By the late 1970s, he was on the “Fantasy Island” and “The Love Boat” celebrity-cameo circuit when producers/directors/writers Jim Abrahams, David Zucker and Jerry Zucker came knocking with “Airplane!” The slapstick film was not only a box-office success, but it recast Nielsen in a whole new light that the actor clearly relished. Following “Airplane!” he again stuck with the Zuckers for their six-episode 1982 “Police Squad!” TV series, in which he again spoofed a popular genre he had once played it straight in, police procedurals, giving the world the bumbling detective Frank Drebin.
He spent the rest of the 1980s mostly doing comedic cameos in films and spot appearances on series such as “227″ and “Highway to Heaven.” Mining the “Police Squad!” vein once more, he hit paydirt again in 1988 with the movie spoof “The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad!,” in which he revived the Drebin character. A series of sequels followed in 1991 and 1994, but Nielsen would never again capture the comedic imagination as he did at his second career peak.
By the 2000s he was mostly seen in cameos in the “Scary Movie” franchise — including a spot in the upcoming fifth installment — and other spoofs such as “2001: A Space Travesty.”

Kanye West Sounds Off On Media At NYC Show

After performance celebrating the release of his new album, ‘Ye turns defiant.By James Dinh

Kanye West performs at his secret show at Bowery Ballroom on Tuesday

Judging by the critical response to his new album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, Kanye West’s love/hate relationship with the media has had little impact on how they view his music. But while concluding his secret New York concert on Tuesday night, the hip-hop heavyweight spoke out on his public image.
After the encore of his Bowery Ballroom set, West reflected on the his career. “As you know, it’s been an extremely hard year for me,” he said. “But getting back to music, G.O.O.D. Fridays, and the album … I never thought I’d say this, I wanna thank the magazines for perfect scores across the board. I always felt like I could do anything, but now I feel so fearless. To do an album after the year that I had and after all the ‘Your career is over,’ ‘Die, n—a, die,’ and ‘You’ll never make music again,’ and to come back and do 100,000 the first day, digital alone, to be slated to do 600,000 in the first week. I don’t talk about the numbers but what that number says is that people want me to keep making music and for me to not give up.”
The Chicago MC then brought up his contentious “Today” show appearance earlier this month. “But I ain’t here to make no mother—-ing politics,” ‘Ye said. “I’m here to make music. I’m not here to talk in no mother—-ing interviews, nobody ask me no stupid-ass questions. We have such a great win. Matt Lauer is not a bad guy, I’m sure.”
Soon after, West went on to another tricky subject, the Taylor Swift VMA incident. “When you do things like what happened last year, it’s disrespectful for everyone that’s created,” he said to roaring applause. “It’s a smack in the face to everyone who tries to do something real. If I wasn’t drunk, I would have been onstage longer. Am I the only one who’s not crazy here?”
Yeezy went on to speak about former President George W. Bush and why he said Bush didn’t “care about black people” in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
“Everyone wants to use people and villianize people, even if you take the concept like George Bush,” he said. “There is no leader in history that has been a villain in that way that didn’t get killed in war or commit suicide, so any man that lives through it, deserves one moment of redemption. Any man! … Everyone needs a villain, don’t we? We need to blame someone at all times. For me to be considered a racist for stating the blatant truth, an obvious truth … But the nuisances of my words, because I am very particular with my words, and they’re an emotion I felt at that time. It wasn’t worded exactly right, but everybody came and said … ‘Oh my God, Kanye, I love you so much. I hated you until you said that. Yeah, now you’re speaking for me, but now you said something that represents me.’ ”
Kanye says his Bush callout was misinterpreted, but he rode the media’s wave. “And the whole time, I’m thinking in my mind, that’s not exactly what I wanted to say, I was emotional. That was not exactly how I wanted to word it. But I rode it. I rode it. Just as Taylor never came to my defense in any interview and rode the wave and rode it and rode it. That’s the way that I rode the wave with the Bush comment. It’s not about popular opinion.”
After experiencing similar backlash from the media, West said he empathized with Bush over the twisting influence of the media, echoing what he’d said during the interview with Matt Lauer.
With another mention of how the “Today” show “f—ed up big time” for playing the VMA incident during his interview, Kanye said that he appreciates and thanks all those that helped him for the better and worse throughout the past year.
“If you’re a real artist, have no fear, say what the f— you want, do what you want and make what you want,” he said. “And if it’s meant to be, then people will stand up like the people stood up with 600,000 coming off being the most hated person this time last year. … And on that note, I love you and on my family that came to help me with the album, that came through tonight, flying in on private jets, everything they had to do to get here, everybody in this audience that sat through this whole thing, I know you got to wake up in the morning. Thank you so much. I love you.”

With another Thanksgiving upon us, celebrities are in the giving spirit. On Tuesday night, Chris Brown and Bow Wow kicked off some pre-Turkey Day festivities with a free concert for their Atlanta-area fans.
Decked out in a slate-gray suit and white kicks, Breezy rocked tracks like his Graffiti joint “I Can Transform Ya,” flanked by similarly dapper backup dancers as he turned out his signature athletic choreography.

The “Deuces” singer said he was down to gift concertgoers with a high-octane performance just in time for the holidays.
“It was fun, I had a great time,” Brown told MTV News. “I love giving back to the fans and everybody who got to come out who really don’t get a chance to come out and go to concerts and things like that.”
Also at the event, which was organized by beatsmith Polow Da Don and featured a carnival and turkey giveaway, was Breezy’s homey and fellow hitmaker Bow Wow. The Cash Money MC said he didn’t need any convincing to rock the crowd alongside his “Shortie Like Mine” collaborator — especially if it meant bringing some holiday cheer to deserving fans.
“It was only right that I came out, supported the homey,” Bow said. “He called me, wanted me to come out, perform the record, shut it down, and I told him it was nothing. And on top of that, it was for a positive cause.”
Coming down the pike from Breezy is the follow-up to Graffiti, which features the single “Yeah 3X.” The singer updated fans about the project in September.
“I’m putting out singles a lot right now, so everything’s coming together. But I definitely am gonna to say this and plug it quick: The name of my album is Fame, so make sure you check it out,” he said during a stop at an Austin, Texas, radio station.
What are your Thanksgiving plans? Let us know in the comments!

Emma Stone Is The Actress We’re Most Thankful For In 2010

November 29th, 2010 — 4:00am

With winning turn in ‘Easy A,’ ‘Spider-Man’ casting and ‘SNL’ hosting gig, the 22-year-old has had quite a year.By Eric Ditzian

Emma Stone

As MTV News’ Thankful Week draws to a close, we begin to cast our gaze away from the big screen and towards tables soon to be the scene of turkey-crazed feasts. But we have one last honor to bestow: the actress we’re most thankful for in 2010.

The winner is none other than Emma Stone, a move that completes a nifty “Spider-Man” double win, as we also honored Andrew Garfield — who’s stepping into the role of Peter Parker — as the actor we’re most thankful for this year. Stone won the part of Gwen Stacy in October, capping a stellar year for the 22-year-old.
From the top-notch teenage rom-com “Easy A” to her “Saturday Night Live” hosting gig to the opportunity to shoot flicks opposite the likes of Steve Carell (“Crazy, Stupid, Love”) and Justin Timberlake (“Friends With Benefits”), Stone was already having a great 2010. Then “Spider-Man” director Marc Webb came calling. Her life is never going to be the same — and she couldn’t be more excited.
The always-energetic actress called up MTV News in the midst of “Spider-Man” preproduction to talk about what a surreal year it’s been and how she’s dealing with the pressures of taking on the iconic Marvel series.
MTV: Thanks for calling up to chat.
Emma Stone: Thank you for having me!
MTV: Well, you’re going to be very excited in a second.
Stone: What is it? What’s it going to be? You like how I’m excited at the mere mention that I’m going to be excited?
MTV: Uh-oh, I really have to come through now. Look out your window — there’s a blimp with your face on it!
Stone: Oh my god, it’s so beautiful, I’m looking right now! You wanna know what’s really insane about that? I actually pulled back the curtain and looked at the sky.
MTV: I’m sorry to disappoint, but I can tell you that every year we honor various people we’re thankful for, and this year you’re the woman we’re most thankful for.
Stone: Oh my god, shut up! Get out of here! I prepared a 10-minute speech, is that OK?
MTV: I’m afraid we don’t have enough time. You know, the man we’re most thankful for this year is your “Spider-Man” co-star Andrew Garfield.
Stone: Hey, I know that guy! We’ve met. He’s the worst!
MTV: I won’t tell him you said that. It has been quite a year for you. “Easy A” gets a great reaction, you’re shooting movies with people like Justin Timberlake and Ryan Gosling, you host “Saturday Night Live,” and then you land “Spider-Man.” Does 2010 feel like a landmark year?
Stone: It feels kind of scary saying this because that means it’s only downhill, but it’s been the best year of my life. Not just with how lucky I’ve been work-wise, but with my family and friends. I’m totally terrified for 2011. I have such a disaster mentality, it’s not even funny.
MTV: Which raises the question, are you ready for something as big as “Spider-Man”? Can you ever be ready for something like that?
Stone: The way I have to approach it, and I think Andrew would agree, is just like any other movie. You’re going to put the same amount of focus into this that you would with anything. It just happens to be an exponentially bigger budget. So there’s that. It’ll probably feel different when we start to do press, but we won’t have to deal with that for another year and a half. And there are harnesses I’m going to have to use in this one. That’s the only difference: just the harnesses.
MTV: Seriously, though, it’s been quite a year for you with onscreen love interests. The women in the office are jealous — Penn Badgley, Timberlake, Gosling, Garfield. You’re a lucky woman …
Stone: What can I say? You cannot compare them. They are so wonderful in their own ways. Again, it’s been an amazing year.
MTV: Has there been one surreal point in particular that kind of encapsulates 2010 for you?
Stone: Hosting “Saturday Night Live.” That’s always been my ultimate dream. That moment before you come out those doors when Don Pardo says your name and you’re standing there … I had never let myself imagine what that would feel like. That moment when you walk through those doors was probably the most surreal moment, not just of
this year, but ever.
MTV: So you guys are in rehearsals for “Spider-Man,” right? What is that process like at this point?
Stone: Today I went and did hair tests, because I have blonde hair now since Gwen has blonde hair. My natural hair is blonde, so it’s kind of nice. I looked in the mirror and said, “Oh my god, it’s me again, it’s been so long!” We’re finalizing the visual stuff. And I think we’ll start actually rehearsing, because we start shooting in two weeks. Andrew and I went and learned about science yesterday. Gwen really likes science, so we learned about science. I was homeschooled, so I never went to chemistry class in a traditional setting like Gwen is into. That was really beneficial.
MTV: There seemed to be so much competition for the role of Gwen Stacy. Do you ever think, “Why me?” What do you think won you the part?
Stone: I ask myself that question every day. I have no f—ing idea. It’s the most amazing idea, I can’t even tell you. I don’t think I ever will figure out how it happened. It’s been mind-blowing. I know things will eventually change, so I’m just trying to avoid thinking about it and just enjoy it while it’s happening. Ugh, what am I even saying? Don’t write any of that down!
Thanksgiving is a time for taking stock, expressing gratitude and, most importantly, overeating. We at MTV News have been gorging all year at movie theaters, so it’s about time we looked back and gave thanks to our favorite actors and filmmakers of 2010. Enjoy exclusive interviews with our winners all week long.
Check out everything we’ve got on “Spider-Man.”

My Chemical Romance Call Danger Days ‘A Missile Directed At Rock And Roll’

November 29th, 2010 — 2:00am

‘The best way to love rock and roll is to shoot it in the head,’ band says.By James Montgomery

My Chemical Romance

Photo: MTV News

In the four years between The Black Parade and Danger Days: The True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys, My Chemical Romance were no strangers to the grandiose statement. It seems that, in every interview they gave, the band found a new way to describe their (then upcoming) album, calling it everything from a “very pure” bit of punk rock to — most famously — “a love letter to rock and roll”.

The end result, of course, was Danger Days, an album that is both of those things (and neither), often at the same time. And yet, it has basically been defined within those parameters. So, looking back on it now, do MCR regret anything they said in the lead-up to the album?
Not really.
“It makes me laugh when I [read it now],” frontman Gerard Way said, smiling.
“Part of the problem was: We tried to define the record before we made the record. And it’s not all our fault,” guitarist Frank Iero added, “because everyone kept asking us, ‘Oh, what’s it going to be?’ And when we said, ‘Oh, we don’t know,’ they’re like, ‘Well, whadaya mean? What’s it going to be? Can you speculate?’ And it’s like, ‘Well, it’s going to be this,’ and when we found out what that is, it changed.”
And that change was, of course, necessary. Both for the band’s survival and the scope of the new album. In retrospect, MCR stand by everything they said about Danger Days, because, really, deep down in its chrome-plated heart, it still is “a love letter” to American rock and roll.
It’s just written from My Chemical Romance’s rather-unique perspective.
“At first, we said, ‘It’s a love letter to rock and roll,’ and we found out that the best way to love rock and roll is to shoot it in the head,” Iero said. “So we made a record that was like a missile directed at rock and roll.
“It just started to change and evolve, and then the band evolved at the same time. And I think that’s the way you have to make a record: in a very organic way.”

‘Twilight Saga: Eclipse’ DVD — Watch An Exclusive Clip Here!

November 28th, 2010 — 8:00pm

We have a preview of the ‘tent scene,’ including hilarious commentary by Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart.By Kara Warner

Taylor Lautner and Kristen Stewart in “Eclipse”

Photo: Summit Entertainment

All right Twilighters, have we got a Thanksgiving treat for you! While “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” DVD doesn’t come out until December 4, MTV News is delighted to present an exclusive clip from the highly anticipated release — complete with commentary from Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart!
This isn’t just any clip either. Summit has kindly bestowed upon us a juicy little snippet from the fan favorite “tent scene.”

In this clip, fans get to see the heated exchange between Edward (Pattinson) and Jacob (Taylor Lautner) as they discuss how Jacob will have to get into a sleeping bag with Bella (Stewart) in order to keep her warm and save her from freezing to death. Edward, of course, is not at all pleased with Jacob getting anywhere near Bella, but he must concede for Bella’s sake. Jacob, taking advantage of the situation, revels in the fact that his warmer-than-normal body temperature means he can do for Bella what Edward can’t.
The scene itself offers plenty of entertainment, but it’s Pattinson and Stewart’s hilarious voiceover commentary about the scene that really sells it.
“Slurp your coffee a little bit more,” we hear Stewart say to Pattinson. “That’s what the fans want.”
“It’s not coffee,” Pattinson responds. “It’s an Arnold Palmer,” he says, attempting to pronounce it with an American accent.
“You’re drinking an Arnold Palmer?” Stewart asks, sounding amused. “Having a little lemonade and iced tea?”
Meanwhile, Jacob has just crawled into Bella’s sleeping bag, which draws Stewart and Pattinson back to the clip.
“God, he’s so gross, so brazen!” Pattinson says of Lautner’s werewolf. “I really don’t like Jacob.”
“Aww,” Stewart says.
“Look at him and his tattoo and stuff. Ugh,” Pattinson mock scoffs.
“He’s just young and overzealous,” Stewart says defending the young wolf.
“He’s not!” Pattinson insists. “He does it on purpose. He’s looking at me when he’s saying this stuff.”
“Yeah, that is weird,” Stewart agrees.
“What is wrong with him? He’s like, ‘I don’t even care about her, I just want to,’ ” Pattinson trails off.
“Look at him cradling!” Stewart points out, which provokes a burst of laughter from Pattinson. “His little head nooked in there,” she adds.
“You look like you’re milking him,” Pattinson says as both “Twilight” actors break out laughing.
A terrific tease, and if that little sneak peek doesn’t make you want to pre-order that DVD now, we don’t know what will.
What do you think about the clip? Stewart and Pattinson’s commentary? Tell us in the comments!
Check out everything we’ve got on “Eclipse.”

Kanye West Performs Rousing ‘Lost In The World’ At Thanksgiving Day Parade

November 28th, 2010 — 10:00am

Despite appearing to be lip-synching, rapper delivers spirited performance at annual Macy’s event.By Alvin Blanco

The Kanye West promo march continues, so naturally the Chicago rapper took his show to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Amidst marching bands and balloon versions of Kermit the Frog, SpongeBob SquarePants and
Spider-Man, Yeezy performed a rousing though shortened rendition of “Lost in the World” from his just-released fifth album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.
As more than two million people lined the parade route and millions more watched from home, West performed in front of Macy’s flagship location near Manhattan’s Herald Square on 34th Street at around 11:20 a.m. West kicked his verse from “Lost in the World” along with its chorus atop the Big Apple float, which was adorned with a giant apple and a New York taxicab coming out of a tunnel below it. Wearing a long fur vest, leather pants and a gold V-neck shirt, West delivered a spirited performance despite the fact that he appeared to be lip-synching.
Interestingly, Matt Lauer was one of the NBC broadcast’s hosts of the parade. Lauer interviewed West during his infamous appearance on the “Today” show that led the rapper to cancel a scheduled performance on the program. West also compared Lauer to a child abuser during a speech at his not-so-secret show at New York’s Bowery Ballroom on Tuesday night. Nevertheless, it was Lauer who introduced West.
Other performers at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade included the casts of the Broadway musicals “Memphis” and “Elf,” Jimmy Fallon with the Roots, folk singer Arlo Guthrie and Keri Hilson, who performed on the My Princess Academy float.

Justin Bieber’s My Worlds Acoustic: A Cheat Sheet

November 28th, 2010 — 2:00am

Get the scoop on the singer’s latest album, out Black Friday.By Jocelyn Vena

Justin Bieber

Photo: Getty Images

On Black Friday, the year’s busiest shopping day by far, Justin Bieber will release his album, My Worlds Acoustic. It will feature one new track, “Pray,” as well as acoustic reinterpretations of some of Bieber’s biggest songs from his first two LPs, My World and My World 2.0.
While fans have gotten the chance to hear “Pray” as well as acoustic teases of “Favorite Girl” (when he stopped by Ryan Seacrest’s radio show this month) and “Never Say Never,” his musical director, Dan Kanter, tweeted what the rest of the album will sound like, saying, “Loving the percussion… Cajones and congas! Definitely an influence from our travels around the world!”

As for “Pray,” Bieber has said he was inspired by a track from the King of Pop himself. “It’s a very uplifting song, very motivational,” he said. “It definitely comes from the heart. It’s very beautiful. I definitely thought of Michael [Jackson's] ‘Man in the Mirror’ when I was writing it.”
The album, which also features “One Time,” “Baby,” “One Less Lonely Girl, “Down to Earth,” “U Smile,” “Stuck in the Moment” and “That Should Be Me,” was recorded because Bieber wanted to silence his critics. “I really think that I did an acoustic album because there’s a lot of haters out there that say, ‘Justin Bieber can’t sing. His voice is all Auto-Tuned,’ ” he said. “And there’s a lot with production, it kind of drowns out your voice, and it takes away from the singer, over the synths and everything.
“I think kind of stripping it down,” he added, “and having it kind of really mellow and being able to hear my voice is why I wanted to do it.”
Will you be picking up Bieber’s latest on Black Friday? Let us know in the comments!
