Tween star’s second single premieres on ‘On-Air With Ryan Seacrest.’

After temporarily taking over the globe (and probably inducing some permanent neck problems) with her chart-smashing “Whip My Hair,” pint-size prodigy Willow Smith is back in action with her new electro-pop banger “21st Century Girl.”

The 10-year-old superstar premiered the track on Monday morning (February 28) on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show, where it was announced that the song will be available exclusively on iTunes starting Tuesday.

The song is as current as they come — she sounds like a fusion of Ke$ha and Rihanna. Willow celebrates being a girl of the moment, all the while backed by a hyper-dancey beat. “The rules don’t own me/ I’m living life on the edge,” the singer coos.

Smith will also be performing the track, produced by Twin and Alke, on Tuesday’s episode of “The Oprah Winfrey Show.” All this news comes on the heels of Smith’s newly announced addition to 13 U.K. dates on Justin Bieber’s journey across the pond with his super-successful My World Tour.

The young talent may be relatively new to the music scene (and the world in general), but her work ethic is inarguably beyond her years.

“It felt like all the hard work paid off, mostly that,” Willow told MTV News last October about the success of her first single. “Like all the hard work that I’ve done, like recording ‘Whip My Hair’ — it’s paid off.”

Willow has also recently hinted at an upcoming album, tweeting, “Are you excited for my album!? It’s coming soon….. VERY soon!!” Although there’s no official release date for the LP, a video for Smith’s new single is said to be coming out shortly.

Katy Perry wanted the world to know that her recent Twitter comments about the use of product placement in music videos were taken completely out of context when it was implied that the star was talking about an alternate version of Britney Spears’ “Hold It Against Me” clip that features some prominently displayed products.

Perry’s hubby, Russell Brand, had a lot to say about the supposed dis, knocking down rumors that Perry’s remarks were implying anything about her fellow pop diva.

“I think those things are made up in the papers and the media to distract people from our spirituality and the truth, and it distracts us from the way the economic situation of the world keeps certain people trapped on this plateau,” Brand told MTV News on the Oscars red carpet, with his mother by his side. “Let’s all rise up and join together. Unite!”

The controversy was initially sparked earlier this month after Perry — responding to a question about product placement from her California Dreams tourmate Marina and the Diamonds — tweeted, “Do it with style and grace … Not so in [your] face like some. [You] have to get creative with it. Some artists don’t care [though, and you] can tell.”

Days after that post, Perry took to Twitter again to try and clarify the meaning of her tweet and take a jab at the media for attempting to pit her against Spears.

“Dear tabloid media a.k.a. FILTH: please note I expressed an overall feeling about product placement, [its] role in videos and the art of them being compliment[ary] or sticking out,” Perry wrote. “Most, if not ALL, popsters welcome deals with products [to] offset costs of big-budget vids in these recessional music industry times. I’VE used them in MY vids before and am happy [to be] able [to] make a better vid because of [them].

“Once AGAIN, stop pitting artist against artist for [your] sensational satisfaction,” she continued, “and stick to what [you're] best [at]: lying, gossiping, exaggerating and overall lending a hand [to] the deterioration of a generation.”

‘All the features are mine, just really big,’ actor says of new look.

Mark Ruffalo will soon join Edward Norton and Eric Bana as the third actor to portray Dr. Bruce Banner in as many big-screen adventures, but when the Incredible Hulk finally lines up next to Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and the rest of Marvel’s mightiest to take on evils no single one of them can handle on their own, it won’t just be the good doctor you’ll have trouble recognizing: It might be the jade giant himself.

“The Avengers” will diverge from previous versions of the character and feature its own re-designed rendering of the green behemoth to more accurately reflect the new actor playing him, Ruffalo revealed to MTV News on the red carpet at the Independent Spirit Awards.

Ruffalo said the character’s designers are working hard to make the Hulk look like him: “All the features are mine, just really big. I got to see the maquette of the Hulk yesterday in full scope, and it’s awesome.”

The re-design makes the most of new technology being utilized for the flick, with Ruffalo donning performance-capture suits akin to the ones used by Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana for “Avatar.” According to the Oscar-nominated actor, it’ll be the first time the same actor has played both incarnations of the character.

“I’ll be playing it. I’m the first actor to actually do it in motion capture as the Hulk,” he said.

Back when the project was initially announced, rumors swirled that the Hulk might actually start out as the villain, tricked perhaps by Loki, as he did when the Avengers first assembled in comics.

While predictably tight-lipped about his role in the plot, Ruffalo did compliment the script, insisting that the film was right “in [director] Joss Whedon’s wheelhouse.”

“It’s cool. It’s gonna be great,” he enthused. “The script is a nice combination of funny with pathos.”

James Franco wins Best Actor for ’127 Hours.’

The day might have started out mildly overcast, but as the film community watched in anticipation, the Santa Monica beach quickly went from partly cloudy to completely black, as “Black Swan” swept the major honors on its way to dominating the Independent Spirit Awards on Saturday (February 26).

A schizophrenic thriller about a ballerina’s inner demons made manifest, “Black Swan” danced away with four awards, winning Best Feature, Best Director for Darren Aronofsky, Best Actress for Natalie Portman and Best Cinematography for Matthew Libatique. The flick is nominated in the same four categories at Sunday’s Academy Awards.

Among other winners, the rural drama “Winter’s Bone” nabbed two awards: Best Supporting Male for John Hawkes and Best Supporting Female for Dale Dickey. Presumptive Oscar Best Picture favorite “The King’s Speech,” meanwhile, won Best Foreign Film.

James Franco, who played a man who literally had to give up an arm to be here today, finally got his due, winning Best Actor for his performance in Danny Boyle’s “127 Hours.” The 32-year-old, who is in almost every moment of the film as the camera focuses on his character’s struggle to make a nearly unthinkable sacrifice, will be front and center as co-host of the Academy Awards.

Other winners included “The Kids Are All Right” for Best Screenplay, “Get Low” for Best First Feature and “Exit Through the Gift Shop” for Best Documentary. Thierry Guetta, aka “Mr. Brainwash,” accepted the award for “Exit” on behalf of the film’s reclusive director, Banksy.

Hosted by Joel McHale, the show honored independent and original filmmaking throughout 2010, moving from last year’s venue, the downtown L.A. Live complex, back to the beach in Santa Monica.

You’ve seen him at the NBA All-Star Game. You’ve seen him at the Grammys. You might have even seen him in concert. But the next place you see Cee Lo Green could be the craziest, most-unlikely place of all: “Between the moon and New York City”?

The crooner has possibly been tapped to cover “Arthur’s Theme (Best That You Can Do)” for the Russell Brand- and Helen Mirren-starring “Arthur” remake, co-star Greta Gerwig revealed exclusively to MTV News on the red carpet at the Independent Spirit Awards, where she was nominated for Best Female Lead for her performance in “Greenberg.”

“I think Cee Lo might be doing something with it — I’m not kidding!” the 27-year-old actress enthused of the outrageous-on-the-face-of-it cover. “I met him at a screening the other day.”

Referring to his Grammy duet, Gerwig joked that she hoped Cee Lo might even find room for one of his more-recent collaborators: “We were thinking Gwyneth Paltrow too!” she said, laughing.

Written by Christopher Cross, Burt Bacharach, Peter Allen and Carole Bayer Sager and performed by Cross, the often-mocked original won both the Golden Globe and Oscar for Best Original Song in 1981. It also reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Directed by Jason Winer, “Arthur” opens nationwide April 8.

‘I’m still kind of amazed that they let me drink beer out of somebody’s skull,’ Nicolas Cage marvels to MTV News.

If the trailers haven’t already sold the fact that “Drive Angry” is outrageous, in every sense of the word, allow the cast of the film — Nicolas Cage, Amber Heard, Billy Burke and William Fichtner — to expand on the subject, particularly the scenes they thought would be left on the cutting-room floor.

“I’m still kind of amazed that they let me drink beer out of somebody’s skull,” Cage admitted to MTV News recently of his character’s most over-the-top antics. “That that’s still in the movie, and it’s a credit to [director] Patrick Lussier that he had the guts to go in the most far-out places.”

“Only in our movie, in the world of ‘Drive Angry,’ ” Heard said.

“I wanted it to look good, like, ‘My cup runneth over,’ ” Cage explained of the big moment. “I wanted the beer to come sploshing out of the eye sockets.”

Burke, who plays a very disturbed and psychotic cult leader hell-bent on infant sacrifice in the film, said he figured that one of the film’s climactic scenes would receive a less intensely violent edit.

“I thought that we would probably change sacrificing a baby to maybe a lamb or something like that,” Burke said. “I didn’t think that we’d actually go forward with wanting to kill a baby, but we did, and that’s the kind of movie this is. So if you can’t take that, for the fun and spirit in which it’s intended, then you shouldn’t go see this movie,” he advised.

For scene-stealer Fichtner, who plays the mysterious character the Accountant, he was most surprised that a very racy/violent love scene made the cut.

“There was one scene in the movie, we all know which one I’m talking about [a 'creative' sex scene in which Cage engages in a gunfight with a naked woman still on top of him] where I thought, ‘Wow, that’s interesting,’ ” he said. “That’s a challenge.”

In addition to the outrageousness of wrapping your head around what happens in that scene, Fichtner said he has great respect for the actors and stunt coordinators who made it happen.

“Patrick [Lussier] did an amazing job and so did Charlotte [Ross] and Nic,” he said. “It’s much more than just a sex scene.”

Lady Gaga sat down with Oprah Winfrey’s bestie, Gayle King, to discuss her forthcoming Nick Knight-directed videos for her chart-topping single “Born This Way,” from her May album of the same name.

“I do have some exciting news about the new single. I’ve been so excited about [the fans'] reaction and seeing the fans be so excited during the show every time we play ‘Born This Way,’ it’s been really amazing,” she told King. “I’ve made two music videos for the song.”

Gaga then went on to confirm that portions of the proceeds from the sale of the “stripped-down” version of the song, which will get its own video (further details about that clip were not known at press time), will go to charity. “So there’s one that’s coming out on Monday,” she explained. “But then I’m actually putting together another video, which is a more stripped-down version of the song that will be released on iTunes and also released as an audio file. A portion of the money raised selling the song is actually going to go towards an anti-bully charity.”

Mum has been the word on what the videos will actually be like. Though Gaga, in a recent radio interview, noted that the visual is about “the birth of a new race within the race of humanity. The birth of a new race that doesn’t bear any prejudices. I think the most important thing is that I continue to grow, and I knew when I put [out] ‘BTW’ it would be a transitional moment, because it doesn’t sound like [my previous singles].”

Fif reportedly lost 50 pounds for Mario Van Peebles-directed film.

It may have taken 50 Cent losing pounds to be recognized as a weighty actor. The film “Things Fall Apart,” which stars 50 Cent as a college football player stricken with cancer, will make its world premiere March 5 at the Miami International Film Festival.

Last year, 50 Cent drew headlines over his commitment to playing the role of Deon Barnes, a University of Michigan football player whose hopes of an NFL career are derailed by a cancer diagnosis. For the role, 50 Cent reportedly lost more than 50 pounds. Stills from the film, directed by Mario Van Peebles, revealed that the rapper looked shockingly emaciated and nearly unrecognizable.

“50 Cent’s physical transformation combined with Mario’s vision for the film kept the story fresh, gritty and powerful,” Miami International Film Festival Executive Director Jaie Laplante told AllHipHop.com. “Fans in Miami will have a unique opportunity to see the film well before the rest of the world does.”

The film also lightened the Queens rapper’s pockets, since besides writing the script, he produced and financed the picture himself too, via his Cheetah Vision Films production company. Director Van Peebles also acts in the film along with Ray Liotta, who plays Barnes’ doctor, and Lynn Whitfield.

50 is taking the actor/rapper/mogul tag seriously. He recently signed on to star in a crime drama called “Freelancers,” which is going to be directed by Jessy Terrero. On the music side, the rapper is getting the buzz going on his forthcoming album, Black Magic, releasing a couple of new songs (“When I Come Back,” “Run Up on Me” freestyle) online to whet fans’ appetites. 50 also recently followed in the footsteps of Dr. Dre and launched his own high-end headphone line called Sleek by 50 Cent.

Fame has never been Adele’s top priority, but these days, there’s no stopping the singer’s rapid rise in popularity.

Adele’s star is only growing brighter on both sides of the pond. According to the singer’s website, a slew of her U.S. tour dates had to be moved to bigger venues to meet popular demand (she even added extra gigs in New York). In addition, according to Reuters, her latest album, 21, is projected to move as many as 300,000 copies by Sunday, guaranteeing a #1 debut in America.

The 22-year-old has mentioned in the past that she has no desire to share the celebrity of her contemporaries. “I was just thinking, imagine being someone like Cheryl Cole or Katy Perry or Gaga, where you’ve got to be conniving to have a normal day,” Adele told Britain’s The Sun earlier this month. “That scares the life out of me. I don’t think I’d be able to carry on doing music if it got to that point. I don’t think it ever will — I don’t think I’m the kind of artist where that will happen.”

The singer/songwriter has also mentioned that she prefers a smaller scene to an outsize stadium. “I can’t do arenas because I’m not [Lady Gaga],” Adele was recently quoted as saying.

But don’t let the singer’s seemingly reserved mentality fool you: Adele wants her music to cross over to the States, even if she doesn’t desire the forceful spotlight that follows. “It’s a big deal in England,” Adele told MTV News of success in America. “I didn’t think I’d ever release a record here.”

This week Justin Bieber made headlines thanks to a new haircut. The Biebs had his famous swooping bangs cut into a shorter, cropped look, and he told talk-show host Ellen DeGeneres he doesn’t “really care” what people have to say about his ‘do.

But his fans have been weighing in on the new hairstyle anyway, and many of them approve of the haircut.

“I really like it and it actually makes him look older!!!! And for all u down there hating on Bieber well if it was Angelina Jolie I’m sure you’d have something to say so don’t hate ’cause he’s sexy and he ain’t even legal yet,” Amanda wrote on MTV.com.

Lilia added, “AAh, he looks better with the new hair! Suits him!”

Beliebers have been debating the star’s latest look since he debuted it earlier this week. Coote noted on our site that Bieber is much more than a head of hair. “I think he [looks] sexy … i don’t love him for his hair… i love him because he is sweet, cute and perfect,” Coote wrote.

MTV News also took to the streets of New York City to see whether people preferred the “Never Say Never” star’s old look or the new one.

“I like it, I think it looks good on him,” Catherine said of Bieber’s longtime haircut. She added about the brand-new cut: “I like it better than the other one, but I think that a lot of his fans liked the [old] one. … Everyone loves him for his hair and now he doesn’t have it anymore.”

Meanwhile, Tiffany loved the original but was blown away by the new version. “I think it’s very Bieberish, I like that long swoop. It definitely works for him,” Tiffany said before we showed her the updated look. “Oh my god! It’s such a transformation! I just love it! He looks so much older!”

“It’s just beautiful,” Christina explained of the old ‘do. “I liked him with his longer hair better. That’s just who he was discovered as.”

“He looks a little geeky,” Sofia said of his famous original hairdo. “It’s much better,” she said of the cropped cut. “He doesn’t look like my brother anymore. He looks five years older. He’s so cute.”
